Layout, or page layout, is the process of arranging informational content within a given space (sheet of paper, comic book page, web pages, etc.).
It follows the work of gathering and composing the content (“plain” text composition, assembling components) and often precedes the printing stage. It may also precede it insofar as it is predefined (column dimensions, text styles, placement of illustrations, etc.).
Its purpose is to represent the content (texts, images, animations…) in a hierarchical and harmonious way (balance of areas, colors, spaces, contrasts) in order to facilitate multi-level reading paths, with constant attention to ergonomics.
